Mumbai Rain Live Update


 Mumbai's civic body declares holiday for all schools and colleges on August 19 amid heavy rain forecast, PTI reported, quoting officials.

The holiday, which is also for teaching and non-teaching staff, has been declared keeping in mind the safety of students, the official added.

The order was issued on Monday evening by the school education department of Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation.

Mumbai has witnesses heavy rains since the early hours of Monday, following which the BMC had declared holiday for all schools and colleges in the afternoon session.

At Matunga, a group of schoolchildren and staff were stranded inside their school building as floodwaters rose rapidly. Responding swiftly, a team from Matunga Police Station rushed to the spot and carried out a rescue operation. Chembur recorded 117 mm of rainfall in six hours (8.30 am–2.30 pm).

Vikhroli received 103 mm of rain during the same period.

Juhu logged 96.5 mm of rainfall.

Santacruz recorded 86.1 mm of rain.

Sion received 82 mm of rainfall.
